Photo of the Month: Shaw House Grade 5, 1963
In 1963 there were 153 students in the junior section of Caulfield Grammar School situated in attractive grounds in Mayfield Street, St. Kilda East. This photo shows Grade 5, 1963. The school magazine lists Grade 5 (V) form officials as Mark Webdale, (Form Captain), David Dunn (Vice Captain) and Bruce White (Deputy Captain) taught jointly by Miss E. E. Warriner (Head Mistress) and past teacher, Mrs M Schreppel (Nee Oakley) at the 2019 Shaw House reunion. Can you help suggest names?

Annual Rites: School Dances – Caulfield and Malvern Grammar in the 1950s and 1960s.
Do you remember school dances? The Caulfield Prefects Dance in the 1950s or a Cadet Unit Dance in the old Memorial Hall in 1968 or Saturday 20th September 1969? A 1955 Prefects Dance held at Malvern Memorial Grammar School?

Our Archive Collection has three photographs from the Malvern Memorial Grammar School ‘1955 Prefects Dance’. A group image has names written on the back as Alan Vickers, Rod Shepherd, Tex McLaurin, Laurie Muir, Robin Twist and Ken Elliott with students from ‘Korowa’.

Recently past student and staff, Dr Daryl Moran (Peer 1970) donated school memorabilia including undated ‘Dance Tickets’. Intriguingly an undated CGS Matriculation Dance ticket, lists The Mixtures, the Rondells and ‘Undecided’ as performers.  The Mixtures band were a well-known rock band formed in 1965 with hit songs from 1970, “In the Summertime”, and “The Pushbike Song”.

I’m keen to confirm if ‘The Mixtures’ played and wondering if any past students might remember the dance? If so, see my contact details below.

Homework from last Online Newsletter.
In the last CGA On-line newsletter a photograph of “The Woodwind Section, 1979” of the school orchestra was shown.   Many thanks to Peter Barrett and Roland Theiler for suggesting names of Richard Periera (Left side), Neil Finnegan (Front end), and Jeff Theiler.  A copy of the 1971 The Malvernian magazine was sought and past Shaw House teacher, Robert Smith has forwarded a copy ensuring a
full set from 1970 to 1977.
