CGA – Community News – February 2025

1/ Ashley Hasforth (Class of 1995)

Ashley Hasforth

Ashley is the CFO at Gilmour Space, which has secured the launch permit for Eris TestFlight1—a huge step forward for Australia’s new the first orbital launch attempt of an Australian-made orbital launch vehicle from a licensed commercial launch site in Australia. Learn more

2/ Casey Day (Class of 2020)

Casey Day

Congratulations to Casey Day (Class of 2020) on receiving the Jabiru Young Citizen of the Year Award for her dedication to bridging cultural gaps and supporting young women in the Bininj community. Casey has made significant contributions through her work with the Stars Foundation and her involvement in promoting health, recreation, and volunteering in the region.

Casey joined our award-winning Year 9 Kakadu Program in 2021 as a Trainee, helping students learn first-hand about living in one of Australia’s remotest regions.
In 2023 Casey returned to work for the Stars Foundation with the aim of bridging the gap between Bininj and Balanda and creating a safe environment that supports young women to make good choices for their future. Casey is a star player for the Jabiru Bombers and is deeply respected within the Bininj (Aboriginal) community, working tirelessly to promote health and recreation and teaching young women the value of giving back through volunteering. This is much-deserved recognition and we congratulate Casey on being such a wonderful role model.

3/ Celina Mina (Class of 1998)

Celina Mina

Celina Mina (née Fitt; Class of 1998) became a published author in November 2024 with the release of her hybrid-memoir, Seasons: Stories of Loss, Light, Hope and Harvest. Drawing upon the first four decades of her life, Celina explores how when we apply to our inner world what nature’s seasons teach us, we begin to see that every situation, event, heartache, relationship and success leads to meaning, redemption and fulfilment. 4/ Gabriel Bergmoser (Class of 2009)

Gabriel Bergmoser

The Hunted, a novel by Gabriel Bergmoser (Class of 2009), is being adapted into a film titled Fear of the Rider, with Ben Mendelsohn (Star Wars: Rogue One), Abbey Lee (Horizons: An American Saga), Toby Wallace (The Bikeriders) and Eliza Scanlen (Babyteeth) in lead roles. Learn more

5/Richard Anthony Strugnell (Class of 1974)

Richard Strugnell has been recognized in the 2025 Australia Day Honours for distinguished service to medicine, particularly microbiology, immunology and vaccinology through tertiary education, research and board positions. His dedication and impact have been celebrated with this prestigious recognition, highlighting his commitment to making a positive difference. Congratulations to Richard for this well-deserved honour.

6/ Jonathan Brett Young (Class of 1955)

Jonathan Brett-Young (CGS 1948-1955) who was awarded a 2025 British New Year’s Honour- Member of the British Empire for services to Veterans and to the Vulnerable in Sutherland. (Lairg, Sutherland)
