3/ David Casley (Class of 1965)

David Casley, age 77, has decide to take down his shingle, ProSearch International Australia P/L, Radiation Laboratory Support for the Medical Research Community. Unfortunately, the business he loved; which included developing methods to analyse newly discovered hormones, enzymes and drugs involved in cardiovascular disease for medical research institutions worldwide, was heavily impacted by the Covid-19 pandemic. Gaining expertise from over 50 years working in medical research departments (Melbourne and Monash), David provided insight and the infrastructure to run a laboratory licensed for radio isotopes that other laboratories would not touch, all from his home in residential Malvern. David’s wife Fran assisted with his work, however he was never able to find enough time to finish his PhD.

The Guest Speaker at Melbourne’s Shrine of Remembrance to mark Boer War Day in May 2024 was Dr Daryl Moran (1966– 1970 & Staff 1981 – 93). Dr Moran spoke about the involvement of Tullabardine’s Scottish Horse, a mounted unit partly recruited in Melbourne in 1901.

Numbered among these troops were two Malvern Grammarians, Henry Gascoigne Davies and Henry Hamilton. Caulfield Grammarian members of the Scottish Horse were GeorgeFrederick Roberts (1899–1900), George Raleigh Stewart (1886) and Gerald Massey Ivor Wilkinson (1895-1896) who was killed in action on 3 July 1901 having turned 21 just two months before.

The home was featured in the September Issue of House & Garden Australia, showcasing its blend of coastal design and contemporary living. 8/ Reunited After 67 Years: Lifelong Friendship Forged at Caulfield

After 67 years apart, four friends from the class of 1957 recently reunited, thanks to a series of determined and nostalgic phone calls. In the back row, Spencer Meier and Basil Theophilos, and in the front, Eric Gamon, a staff member from 1969 to 1984, along with David Endean, who served on staff at Geelong Grammar, came together for a heartwarming catch-up.

Their enduring bond is a testament to the lasting camaraderie formed during their time at Caulfield. It’s a reminder that these friendships can withstand the test of time, and we hope that many more will experience such connections in the years to come.

9/ Honouring the 1964 CGS 2nd VIII: A Milestone Victory at the Head of the River

Sixty years ago, in April 1964, the CGS 2nd VIII made history by winning its Division at the Head of the River Regatta. This remarkable achievement came in only the second year the School had entered a crew in that Division, and just the fourth year CGS had competed in the prestigious event.

Though four members of the crew are no longer with us, their memory lives on in our hearts, and their contribution to this historic moment will never be forgotten.
